Frosty mornings and I’m on the team

Weekly round up

Both runs this week were on the frosty side.

My first was on Tuesday and I decided to do some intervals. So off I trotted, starting with a warm up run of 1 km, then I did four repeats of 3 minutes at my 5k pace with a 1 minute jog.

The sun was shinning but it was rather cold, something that certainly makes it difficult to get going. I had to walk rather than jog for the minute in between each set. I finished with a slow cool down jog for 1 km.

In total I managed 3.18 miles in 32 minutes 44 seconds, so not bad but definitely hard work!

My second run was on a very frosty Sunday. I had intended to go in the morning but the pavement was so icy that I thought I’d wait until the fog lifted. It never did! So just after midday I decided to go for it and just take it steady.

It was a really nice run, although the fog made everything a little bit spooky. I spotted a buzzard perched on a frosty tree and felt a bit sorry for the sheep in the fields, they must have been rather cold. I also ran through a field with some horses, or rather I walked through the field as I wasn’t sure if they would decide to run with me!

I ended up on a longer and muddier route than I intended but it was nice and exhilarating. The route was 5.08 miles which I ran in 55 minutes 12 seconds.

I also had some rather exciting news this week. Just before Christmas I applied to be part of the Women’s Running magazine team for Vertical Rush, a tower run in aid of Shelter, the housing charity. It involves running 932 steps as fast as possible and I thought it would be a great challenge for me.

Well the good news is I made the team! I’m a mixture of excitement and nerves as I know it’s going to be a huge challenge and I will have to train in a completely different way to the training I did for my half marathon. As part of the team I do get to go to a training day which will help to make sure I’m training in the right way. There is also a team running for Men’s Running magazine which will make it a little competitive.

My main feeling at the moment is Eek! We shall see if my eek subsides after the training day. Watch this space!

Doughnuts and some running

This week was rather fun. I only managed two runs but I really enjoyed them, plus I got to the gym. So Monday I went to my Pilates class. I do miss it when I can’t go, even though some of the moves are really hard and I ache afterwards. This week wasn’t so bad…

End of November

End of November

I’ve not done a weekly roundup since finishing my Trailffest training. To be honest I’ve not been that regular with my runs or workouts since the start of October. I’ve still managed at least two runs a week but these have been shorter ones with the Start to Run course and my lunchtime running…
