Invitation to run

Weekly Round Up

It’s been rather a fun week of running this week.

My first run on Tuesday was with my new running club. Yes, I am now involved in three running clubs! This one is a new club started at my work. It turned out that a few of us had been thinking that it would be nice to have a lunchtime running group but until last month we hadn’t talked to each other about it. Once we did we decided to act and with some advice from Run England we have started one.

We had enough interest to have both a beginners group and an intermediate one. I lead the intermediate group and planned a route that had a 3k and a 5k option as I wasn’t sure how far people would want to run. In the end everyone went for the 5k run which went through some local woods.

I’m really looking forward to planning and leading the group again.

On Wednesday it was my regular running club night but this time I was joined by my mum. It was the club’s invitation night which means we invite people from other neighbouring clubs to join us for the night so I thought it would be a good night for my mum to come along. We had a really good run, just over 5 miles in some beautiful woods, parks and along the canals. The group we ran with had about 70 people running, it was fantastic.

I first ran with my club at the invitation night last year so it was nice to be able to invite my mum along to this one and show her why I love running with them. The club also does a buffet supper on invitation night and as there are quite a number of vegans at the club the vegetarian option is always vegan, so me and my mum were able to have dinner together afterwards before she had to catch her train back to London.

My third run of the week was a progression run on the treadmill. I should have done two speed sessions this week but have had a bit of a sore throat that I didn’t want to turn into a cold so I took it a bit easier. I don’t really use the treadmill much but it seemed to make sense to try doing a progression run on one. I have tried progression runs and tempo runs outdoors before but I do find it hard to keep a constant pace. Running on the treadmill means you have no choice but to keep a steady pace, otherwise you fall off! I did find it hard, especially on the last 10 minutes ran at threshold pace, but hopefully it will help me with my pacing.

On non running news, did anyone see the Vegan Society blog about aquafaba? I had seen comments about ‘chickpea water meringues’ on Twitter but hadn’t really looked into it. It wasn’t until I was the Vegan Society’s blog that I thought I might give it a go. So here they are, vegan meringues! Crisp and fluffy and sweet.

The chickpea water really did foam and whip up like egg whites. I might experiment a bit to see if I can use it to make a vegan Yorkshire puddings.

Have you tried chickpea meringues?

Doughnuts and some running

Doughnuts and some running

This week was rather fun. I only managed two runs but I really enjoyed them, plus I got to the gym. So Monday I went to my Pilates class. I do miss it when I can’t go, even though some of the moves are really hard and I ache afterwards. This week wasn’t so bad…

End of November

End of November

I’ve not done a weekly roundup since finishing my Trailffest training. To be honest I’ve not been that regular with my runs or workouts since the start of October. I’ve still managed at least two runs a week but these have been shorter ones with the Start to Run course and my lunchtime running…
